My initial purpose in becoming part of the virtual world of Second Life was to explore the educational possibilities for teaching and learning. In my journey of self-exploration in this global community, not only have I encountered an amazing number of talented people, but I have expanded the boundaries of my world. No longer am I bound within the walls of my immediate surroundings---whether it is the four walls of my classroom, or the region in which I live. My world has now taken on a global perception. Social networking has become my norm. For the world of Second Life has allowed me to experience the true meaning of the “world is flat."
I am a volunteer on the teen grid at Eye4You Alliance, GlobalKids and Skoolaborate. On the main grid I have created the Teacher Networking Center. My vision for the TNC was to establish a place where educators could explore the educational tools used in Second Life as well as take part in professional development workshops that related to classroom teaching. Second Life offers the perfect platform for educators from all parts of the world to come together to share, discuss and exchange educational practices.
I have a broad educational background ranging from a Bachelor of Fine Art (photography and drawing) to a Bachelor of Education (history) and a Master Degree in Technology. I have lived in Denmark, Canada, and the USA.
I hope to be a viable member of this exciting new magazine for librarians. |
