A new resident of Cybrary City II is the Johnson & Wales Library, headed by Barbarathelibrarian Magic, who took over the building from Abbey Zenith and made modifications to further accommodate the educational needs of JW University. Johnson & Wales' dean, Rosita Hopper, is very supportive of the use of technology within the educational program, and has been a stimulating force behind the creation of the JW Library in SL focusing on culinary resources. The building itself is magical - transparent and open, with wonderful landscaping. The catalog brings together the resources of all four Johnson & Wales campus libraries, and the library provides information literacy support for the university's students. The first floor is devoted to culinary arts; the second to education and hospitality; and the third is a culinary herb garden and cooking garden. Magic intends to add a fourth floor, which will be devoted to culinary history and education in the use of culinary herbs. The culinary herb garden is delightful. As a teaching tool, it offers innovative uses of the virtual environment. Designed by Snow Scarmon, it allows the library user to click on each herb and receive a notecard defining and describing that herb. All the plants on the third floor are edible, of course.

According to Magic, the RL Johnson & Wales library is mostly print-oriented, but "we are beginning to [acquire] electronic books, so I can make links to them from the SL library." The J&W library is a small jewel now added to the crown of Cybrary City II! |
