Primcutter Exhibit: Building Musical Representations for Education

Text and Photos by SIFRIYA DEVIN The University of Kentucky Libraries is hosting a new one man exhibit based on the work of resident builder Oriscus Zauberflote, also known as “Oz”. In real life, Oz is known as Dwight Newton, the public information coordinator for the University of Kentucky’s School of Music. With his extensive background in music, Oz decided to focus his Second Life explorations on the musical representations found in-world. These explorations inspired him to begin building musical instruments and other musical related structures as the University’s island developed many builds under his supervision. As his talent developed, Oz’s building scope grew to include many full size structures; most of which were based on historical real life buildings. Boots Made for More Than Walking

Text and Photos by HYACINTH CORTES There is a chill in the air, the leaves are turning colors, and the first snowflakes are coming down.  In Second Life, just as in the real northern hemisphere our thoughts are on -  boots!  A fashion statement or a practicality for wading through rain, wind or snow drifts, there is nothing like a well made boot.  Vogue said mid-calf boots are a season must-have.  I went to Macy's recently and was dazzled by boots this year; tall, short, stiletto heeled sexy boots, flat and comfortable - the choices were amazing.  But I learned two things.  I'd never try to totter around in stiletto heeled boots in real life, and I couldn't really afford most of the nicest boots.  In SL these problems are minimized so I can satisfy a craving for boots.
